There are National, State and Club tournaments held throughout the year. Most tournaments are played on traditional turf pitches however due to weather we are sometimes forced to play on artificial pitches.
National & State Competitions are predominantly chosen through a selection process. There are now multiple age groups ranging from 60’s, 65’s, 70’s and over 75’s. There are sometimes limitations on who can play in what age groups but we typically play a combined age group for club competitions where allowed.
Coffs Coast Masters Cricket Club has two major carnivals we participate in or run ourselves. We have an Annual Coffs Coast Classic played early September in the Coffs Coast Region and the Sunshine Coast Winter Club Carnival held in June most years.

Coffs Coast Master Cricket

Sunshine Coast National Club Carnival
Coffs Coast Masters cricketers travelled to the Sunshine Coast to participate in one of the largest Masters Club Cricket Carnivals in the country. 16 teams from around the country played 4 matches over 5 days against some of the best clubs the country has to offer. We had 13 Coffs Coast locals who fought hard in a strong competition and held our own.
The structure of Masters cricket means everyone gets a go. It is a one day format of 45 Overs per team, max 6 overs per bowler, batters need to retire if not out after facing 35 balls.
Day 1 saw us up against Queensland Wombats at the fantastic Mooloolaba Cricket complex dismissing them for 187 with Terry Herbert 2-13 with both wickets in his first over and Richard Spain 4-28 in his first game with the club. After losing a few early wickets Richard Spain (40 Not Out) and Barry Hill (21 not out) managed to provide a glimmer of hope but unfortunately it was not enough to see us over the line, being all out for 110.
Day 2 pitted us against the Central Coast Cyclones for a moral boosting victory in the beautiful village of Palmwoods. Batting first Coffs Coast scored 210 with Richard Spain (37 Not Out), Barry Hill (29 Not Out), Bruce Mackie (28 Not Out) and Brian Russell (24 Not Out) leading the way. Central Coast chased hard to finish with 182 with John Priddle 3-18 and Terry Herbert 2-19 being the pick of the bowlers.
Day 3 saw us against the undefeated Geelong team who came out strong and scored 210 against us with Bruce Mackie, Michael Cheers and Terry Herbert keeping us in the game with their fine bowling. However, we could only make 149 runs against some top bowling from Geelong. Key contributors Richard Spain (25) and Bill Saker (22 Not Out).
Day 4 and our final game had us going up against Port Jackson(Sydney Metro) in the lovely township of Yandina. Port Jackson had not lost a game either and batting first Coffs Coast were rolled for 103 by a very strong opposition bowling lineup. Bruce Mackie (30 Not Out) and Barry Hill (22 Not Out) were the top scorers…unfortunately we didn’t have enough runs on the board to give our bowlers any chance of defending our target.
All up a terrific tournament and a great week of hard fought cricket while spending time with good mates in the twilight of their cricketing careers.
